About the Jerusalem - Wadi Arava route
The distance to the border is about 320 kilometers. Depending on the traffic situation and stops, the journey will take about 4.5-5.5 hours. We take the tried and tested route: Highway 1 → 6 → 40 → 90. This is the most direct and reliable route from Jerusalem to the southern border.
You pass through Be'er Sheva and Mitzpe Ramon, see the Negev desert and the impressive Ramon crater, and then descend to the Arava plateau. The trip is picturesque and memorable - especially if you drive in the morning.
About the Wadi Arava checkpoint
The border is located just a few kilometers from Eilat. The Israeli part of the crossing is equipped with a terminal, parking and sanitary zones. On the Jordanian side there is a currency exchange and taxis, but no Duty Free. The checkpoint is not open 24 hours - check the hours before traveling, especially on holidays.
What documents are needed at the border?
To cross the border, you will need a passport valid for at least 6 months. Jordanian visas can usually be obtained directly at the border, but it is better to check the current rules before the trip. An exit fee from Israel is also paid, and it is highly advisable to get medical insurance.
