Travel time and route
The distance from Haifa to the Aqaba checkpoint is about 340 km. The average travel time is from 4.5 to 5 hours, depending on traffic and time of day. The route goes along the main roads: first Highway 6, then Highway 40 and then Highway 90 along the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea coast.
The road to the southern border of Israel will pass by such places as Be'er Sheva - the main city of the Negev, Mitzpe Ramon - a famous viewpoint overlooking the Ramon Crater, as well as the endless desert and oases along Highway 90. This is a picturesque route with the opportunity to enjoy the landscapes of southern Israel.
Information about the Aqaba (Wadi Arava) checkpoint
The crossing is located 5 kilometers north of Eilat. On the Israeli side, it is designated as Wadi Arava, and on the Jordanian side - as the Aqaba checkpoint. The crossing operates daily, usually from 6:30 to 20:00 (time may change on Fridays and holidays). Walking is permitted, the procedure takes place through a modern terminal with a waiting area, restrooms and air conditioning. There is no Duty Free.
What documents are needed
To leave Israel, you need a foreign passport valid for at least 6 months. In most cases, citizens of Europe and the CIS can obtain a Jordanian visa at the border, but it is recommended to check the current rules in advance. You also need to pay an exit fee from the Israeli side - online or on site.
